The Omaha Branch of the NAACP has announced its plans to celebrate the 2009 Freedom Banquet on October 1, 2009 at the Holiday Inn Convention Center, 3321 South 72nd Street. The event will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a social hour and the program starting at 7:00 p.m. Benjamin Todd Jealous, President of the National NAACP will be the featured speaker. Rev. Bachus has been recognized as one of the top 20 pastors to watch in our nation by the African-American Pulpit Journal, the leading publication dedicated to covering predominantly African-American churches.
The 2007 Freedom Banquet theme is: “Honoring Our Past While Staking Claim to Our Future.” The event expects to gather over 500 participants to celebrate the diversity and inclusiveness of the Omaha community. Several businesses, individuals, and youth who have demonstrated consistent support to the NAACP cause will be recognized during the event.
Our speaker for the evening will be Mr. Benjamin Todd Jealous, President and CEO of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Mr. Jealous is the 17th President of the NAACP and the youngest to hold the position in the organizations 100-year history. During his career, he has served as President of the Rosenberg Foundation, Director of the U.S. Human Rights Program at Amnesty International and Executive Director of the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA), a federation of more than 200 black community newspapers.
The 2009 Freedom Banquet offers opportunities for sponsorship for business and individuals. Corporate sponsorships begin at the $2,000 level and up to $10,000. Tables of ten can be reserved at $750.
