Saturday, September 11 - The Worship Center Community Outreach Block Party!. “Taking It To The Streets”, 1:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., 2021 N. 24th Street (24th & Blondo). This event is being held in response to our community’s call to “Stop The Violence.”  We are partnering with other community groups and corporations to provide a day of free activities for individuals of all ages and families. These free activities will include live music featuring Da Truth and Solomon, entertainment, sports events, FREE food, fun, and educational information designed to promote and strengthen community relations as a means to stop the violence that is devastating our neighborhood, community and city. We also hope to express our concern and support to those who have been personally affected by the violence. For more information call the Worship Center at 341-4297.

Sunday, September 12 - 6th Annual Out of the Darkness Community Walk/Omaha, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). Ceremonies begin 1 p.m.. Balloon release 1:55 p.m.. Walk – 2 p.m. (until approximately 4 p.m.). 3.5 miles Miller’s Landing Park to and around Heartland Park Fountain and back to honor those lost to suicide and to raise awareness about mood disorders and depression having the capacity to end life.  No-entry fee walk – but we have a NE Chapter of AFSP and encourage participants to use the information on the webpage they will receive after registering to solicit donations.  Register online today until day before walk at: www.outofthedarkness.org.  Contact:  amandahugs@cox.net 593-7515 - Jeanne Pfeifer/Frank Brichacek/Walk Coordinators for general information of if having difficulty registering. 

 

Monday, September 13 - Home Energy Efficiency Workshop.  “OPPD Products”. 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Workshop and Dinner are held at the Neighborhood Center, 115 South 49th Avenue.  OPPD is offering a series of workshops to help you manage your energy costs and protect your home equipment and internal electrical lines. September's topic: OPPD Products: High Efficiency Heat Pump and Air Conditioner Program, Residential Surge Guard, In-Home Electrical Protection Plan and Green Power

Direct from Argentina and Las Vegas, this dynamic duo kicks off Hispanic/Latino Heritage Month with flamenco dancing, boleadora routines and rhythmic percussion that combine for an educational tour of Argentina and Gauchos.  The event is Free and open to the public. Monday, September 20 - Embrace the Heartland in Prayer. 6:00 p.m.  Legislative Chambers at the City-County Building, 1819 Farnam Street. Embrace the Heartland in Prayer would like to invite you to join with believers from around our city to pray for our city and county officials. We will have the unique opportunity to pray in the Legislative Chambers at the City-County Building for many of these officials. John Ewing, Douglas County Treasurer, will lead the meeting.  Several other ministry leaders and pastors will lead the prayer times.
